The B.Tech in Aquaculture and seafood technology is a multidisciplinary undergraduate programme aimed at producing skilled personnel who can apply scientific knowledge, conceptual understanding, and applications of areas of aquatic resources management, process & product technology, and legislation. The students engage in a wide range of topics of scientific interest and increasing social concerns. Advanced aquaculture, Aquatic ecology, Post-harvest technology and value addition, Aquatic plant culture technology, Analysis of seafood quality and safety, Quality assurance in sea food industry, Product and process management, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources management and Law. Applicants must have passed the G.C.E. advanced level examination with minimum passes at a single attempt in biological science/bio system technology stream. OR NVQ level 05 or above in the relevant technology areas(Aquaculture/food technology) Applicants who sat for G.C.E. advanced level within three attempts at the immediate previous year, are eligible to apply Applications are called from the prospective candidates through the Ocean University website in the relevant year. Students will be selected based on highest z-scores and through an aptitude test. You will be required to attend an interview. In the first year, you’ll develop your foundation knowledge in Aquaculture and Seafood technology including the fundamentals of chemistry, biology ecology, sea food science and communication skills. In your second year, you'll learn further more about the Aquaculture and Seafood technology and its applications in the field and industries. In your third year, you'll study process & product technology, managerial skills and legislations related to Aquaculture and seafood technology. In the end of the year you will go for an internship and produce an industrial training report. Those who wish to complete the Mini Research project and report module will get a certificate from the University stating that they have completed a research project. The three-year B.Tech degree in Aquaculture and Seafood Technology comprised of 103 total credits including 90 and 13 credits for GPA and NGPA modules, respectively.
