The first Diploma Certificate Award Ceremony for students of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka who have successfully completed three courses (NVQ 5/6) out of 21 courses related to marine, fisheries and ocean related was held on 17^th February 2022 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the patronage of Dr. Seetha Arambepola, State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation.

Two hundred and eighteen (218) students who completed the following courses were awarded with:

• National Diploma in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management
• National Diploma in Maritime and Logistics Management
• Diploma in Marine Engineering

The courses offer nationally and internationally recognized certification and the opportunity to apply directly to qualified trainees.  These courses are conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English in eight regional centers located along the island.

Ocean University Chancellor Prof. Oscar Amarasinghe, Vice Chancellor Prof. Wasantha Ratnayake, University lecturers and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Vocational Technology Dr. T. A. Piyasiri and Mrs. Deepa Liyanage, Secretary to the Ministry of State were also present.
