The program aims to cover ecological aspects of the diverse and valuable resources of the coast and the Ocean, prevalent issues and challenges in sustainable management of coastal and marine resources as well as strategies of conservation and management of coastal and marine Resources.

The program will provide the students with tools and expertise required to successfully manage the coastal and marine resources through an integrated approach, enhancing the scientific, economic and social values associated with the coastal and marine resources and conductance of applied research and dissemination of research findings.

Study areas in this course

Biological, physical and ecological aspects of coastal and marine resources, threats and challenges to coastal and marine resources, Legal background,. Risk assessments and ecosystem valuations, Tools and strategies for coastal and marine resources management, research methodology and scientific communication.

Entry Requirements

Advanced-levels

  • Applicants must have passed the G.C.E. advanced level examination with minimum passes at a single attempt in any stream.

Aptitude test

  • Applicants those who have fulfilled the minimum requirement will be called for an aptitude test. The selection will be done based on the Aptitude test results and an interview.

BSc. Honours Degree

  • Students who performed exceptionally well in their first four semester will be selected to follow B. Sc. Honours Degree. for Selection Criteria >>>

Course Structure

  • In the first year, you’ll develop your foundation knowledge in Coastal and Marine Resources including the fundamentals of Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Economics and Mathematics.

  • In your second year, you’ll learn further more about the coastal and marine resources and its associated services as well as the challenges and threats it is facing due to anthropogenic and natural causes.

  • In the third year you will learn the strategic approaches for better management of coastal and marine resources. You will  learn techniques of environmental monitoring and pollution mitigation methods, integrated approaches of coastal and marine resources management, different management strategies and tools which will help you to thrive as a resource manager.

  • Fourth year (for honour ) is designed to give you the knowledge on more specific and specialized areas in coastal and marine resources management, such as ecosystem valuation, environmental risk assessment and remote sensing applications etc. the content in the fourth year also focused on developing your research skills including research planning, data collection, data analysis and scientific presentation of findings.

The three year B.Sc. degree in Coastal and Marine Resources Management comprised of 101 total credits including GPA and NGPA modules, and the four year B. Sc. (Honours) degree in Coastal and Marine Resources Management is comprised of 131 total credits including GPA and NGPA modules
